About this deal

after reading the reviews thought i would give them a try , they burn really well and last longer than wood also get a good heat off them and easy to light , though some say they burn for 2 to 3 hours i put 2 on burner and they lasted 1 hour 30 mins on a low air supply . Bord na Mona (BnM) is to close its last remaining peat briquette plant at Derrinlough, Co Offaly, with the loss of 62 jobs. Briquettes produce a lot of fine, white ash which tends to act like an insulating blanket on the embers and can easily still be hot the next afternoon. Some environmental organisations and scientists have pointed out that the large-scale removal of peat from bogs in Britain, Ireland and Finland is destroying wildlife habitats. They mention that it smells really nice, produces enough heat to keep them comfy and that it's easy to use.

It takes centuries for a peat bog to regenerate not to mention the carbon dioxide dispatched on its not so merrily way. These blocks put out a really good deal of heat and they burn for quite a long time, leaving very little residue behind.Indead, I'll be travelling to Dublin in September and would like to bring some with me (I'm an addict of this smell). Just don't have a clue where to find some in Dublin (we won't have a car and found an hostel close to Temple Bar). We take pride in the knowledge that we can deliver you traditional Irish peat which cannot be matched by coal or wood. If you have never experienced the magical smell that is given off from this type of fuel then you have never lived! Even if you could get them broken up, the suitability of briquettes would partially depend on what depth they were taken from the bog.

We like our open fires, but I agree that coal is nasty dirty stuff which leaves the ash residue to be got rid of and it also increases the levels of 'dust' round the house.Peat as a fuel has been around for centuries, and now, with advances in knowledge and technology we are harvesting peat from peat bogs and turning them into areas of outstanding natural beauty. The briquettes are highly compressed and rock hard not soft, even if you soak them they dont go back to being like normal peat. To me the smell from briquettes was stronger from touching them and not burning them whereas the smell of the turf really comes out when it is being burned. All the briquettes have the same dimensions and peat content given a predictable consistently high burn time and heat production.

New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging . In actual fact because they burn so easily, they can be a great way to light fires even if you only intend on using one to get the fire started and then proceed with another type of fuel. Peat briquettes will provide a long burn time of up to three hours, but can also be used in a closed appliance to keep a fire ‘in’ overnight or to rekindle a dying flame. Closure was inevitable after a decision to end peat harvesting in 2021, yet its demise is six to 12 months ahead of schedule. The Bord na Mona briquettes need to be kept under shelter as they will disintegrate if left exposed. My (plastic) greenhouse got blown across the garden along with my geraniums and watercress (that's another story! Apart from the fact that they're quite heavy, briquettes are fuel and you may have difficulties with both airport security and customs.

cant get to the prospective supplier till next week but I'll report back later for anyone in the area that needs it, if it turns out ok. Made from 100% natural products, they are just as suitable for open fires as for stoves, Chimineas, Burners, Outdoor Fire Pits and BBQ's etc and are easy to light.Briquettes have been made here since the mid-19th century, though production ramped up to counter fuel shortages after the Second World War. Handle them gently, as Tapl says, there is a lot of fine ash which floats around - and you will only take them outside in an uncovered container once! They are made from peat which is milled, dried and then pressed under high pressure to make a solid rectangular briquette. The nearest petrol station to Temple Bar is probably the one on Usher's Quay, just around the corner from the Brazen Head pub.
